Choosing the Right Excavator Size
Plan excavator size around digging depth, reach, swing space, offloading access, spoil handling and truck loading requirements.
Start with reach and depth
Required digging depth, reach over obstacles and bucket capacity determine the useful excavator class. More capacity is not always better: a larger machine needs more transport space, swing clearance and ground bearing capacity.
Check the complete operating envelope
Measure the narrowest access point and available swing area, not only the excavation itself. Confirm offloading space, nearby buildings, overhead services, spoil placement and truck position. The machine must be able to enter, work and leave without damaging the access route.
